The Canary Bird

The canary bird - or "kanariefågeln" - is a recurring character in Hans Kellerman's artwork, illustrations, stories and quirky machines. The bird's backstory is that he's temping in a cuckoo clock, where his grandiose talents are, frankly, going to waste. Between performances (that is, when the clock strikes on the hour and he is scheduled to make an appearance), he spends his time reading, snoozing and dreaming. In his dreams, he travels the world, explores, and experiences both the mundane and the absolutely extraordinary. That's why you can see him flying a propeller plane, herding sheep in Tuscany, exploring life in the depths of the ocean, playing tennis and much, much more.
